Bacteria Dipslide Testing Service by Metalworking Lubricant Services

The HSE now require regular bacteria dipslide tests of cutting fluids

One of the key points of the new guidance is that a direct means of monitoring bacteria is essential for water based coolants and wash chemicals. The HSE stress the importance of taking dipslides together with clear procedures for dealing with contaminated sumps.

These requirements are compulsory to all users, however they can represent a major investment in time, labour and expenditure.  The associated manpower for retrieving the samples, incubating for 24 hours, collating and recording the results and then disposal of the spent dipslides in considerable.

Should any machine show evidence of an unacceptable level of bacteria, the new risk assesment protocols DEMAND that the coolant is sterilised, cleaned and changed immediately.

Additionally, should a history of bacteria at unacceptable levels be identified within users machines, MLS can instigate a programme of onsite improvement measures, that identify the source of the problems and prevent bacteria subsequently developing.
