Bacteria / Fungus
Bacterial infections and the presence of bacterial BioFilm are the enemy of all coolants in relation to lowering pH. BioFilm is a protein carbohydrate complex that bacteria produce to protect themselves from external elements and take the form of a slime or mucus. Fungal infections are the result of fungal spoors developing using a coolant food source.
- Poor performance cutting fluids encourage the proliferation of bacteria and BioFilm.
- Bacteria exude acidic waste products. These acids are typically hydrochloric acid (HCl) and hydrogen sulphide (H2S). Over a relatively short period of time, these toxins will start lowering the pH in your sump.
